MCLEANSBORO [mdash] Herman Samuel Rogers, 75, of McLeansboro, passed away 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at his residence. Visitation was 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at Ten Mile Baptist Church in McLeansboro. Funeral service was 5 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Brother Jacob Gray officiating. Burial was at Ten Mile Cemetery in McLeansboro, He was born May 1, 1941, in McLeansboro, the son of Ira Tillman Rogers and Juanita Elizabeth (Kniffen) Rogers. He married Ethel Joanne (Boyd) on May 21, 1965, in Waukegan. He was a tool and die maker and had been employed by Johnson Motors in Waukegan, General Tire of Mt. Vernon, Inland Steel Coal of McLeansboro and Proctor and Gambel of St. Louis. He loved gardening and raising sheep. He enjoyed living on the farm, being outside, hunting and fishing and spending time with children and grandchildren. Sam attended M.T.H.S. with the Class of 1959 and attended Ten Mile Baptist Church. He is survived by wife, Ethel Rogers of McLeansboro; two sons, Rob Rogers of McLeansboro and Sam J. Rogers of McLeansboro; daughter, Retha Bond and husband Gerry of McLeansboro; eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Orry, Taylor, Cullen, Cassidy, Colton, Codee and Clancy; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Orlin, Kinley and Jamie; one sister, Mary Lou Elliston and husband Louis of McLeansboro; sisters-in-law, Neva Rogers of New Braunfels, Texas, and Elva Walker of Murray, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Charles. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of arrangements.
